De naam fontein lijkt in eerste instantie wat vreemd gekozen voor twee stoelen die aan weerszijde van een sokkel staan met hierop een miniatuur van de markt met in het midden het stadhuis van Middelburg. In de sokkel zijn twee kijkgaten met hieronder de tekst "Kijk in de tunnel, je ziet het rioleringssysteem van de stad uit de VIIIste eeuw." Hiervoor moet je plaatsnemen op de stoel, en eenmaal daar gezeten begint het water onderuit je stoel te stromen. Dit zorgt natuurlijk voor de nodige hilariteit bij de omstanders. Het kunstwerk zorgt bij veel kinderen voor de nodige verwarring. Want waar komt dat water toch vandaan?

At first glance, the name fountain seems a bit odd for two chairs that stand on either side of a plinth with a miniature of the market with the town hall of Middelburg in the middle. In the plinth are two peepholes with the text below "Look in the tunnel, you can see the city's 8th century sewage system." For this you have to take a seat on the chair, and once seated there, the water starts to flow from underneath your chair. This of course creates the necessary hilarity among the bystanders. The artwork causes confusion for many children. Because where does that water come from?
