------
"In Hainichen, located near the German border with the Czech Republic, VEB Barkas-Werke, or Barkas for short, built the V901/2 between 1953 and 1961. Barkas was a van manufacturer that not only produced the two-stroke twin cylinders for Trabant, but could also put its own vehicles on the road. The V901/2, often also referred to as Framo (Barkas followed in the footsteps of a van manufacturer with that name), was one of the smallest delivery vehicles you could buy in the former GDR. Barkas also built the better known B1000, a van that was also available as a passenger version. The latter version was used by, among others, the Stasi."
