There are several places where you can launch a canoe or small boat into the beautiful Dordogne. This point indicates just one of many. What recommends this point is the fact that from here you will see the most beautiful of the castles along the Dordogne concentrated along a fairly short stretch of the river. You can complete this stretch in about 1/2 day depending on how fast you paddle. Then spend the rest of day touring the castles you passed along the way.
There are also several establishments renting canoes to the tourists in this area. As we were renting, it is possible that this specific location may be a private launch so check locally before launching here if you have your own canoe.
From here down to our take out point near Bezenac, you'll glide past the picturesque towns of LaRoque-Gageac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, and Beynac each with its own medieval castle clearly visible from the river. You will also pass solitary castles and the castle owned by Josephine Baker.
If you have high speed internet and Windows Media Player, you can watch my video of our canoe trip at my site at http://www.overthebrink.com/aquitaine/October%20Trip%204b_cable.wmv
