Following the establishment of the Federal Reserve Act in 1913 that established twelve regional offices throughout the country, Dallas was selected to become the site of the bank for the eleventh district.

"While the downtown area was opening to the north, new construction was also continuing along the southern edge of the Central Business District. After several expansions and relocations, a new building for the Federal Reserve Bank (1921) was constructed at 400 Akard Street, near the Interurban Building.

The 2-Part Commercial Beaux Arts style building has 5 floors."
