"their name liveth for evermore" is a quote from Ecclestiasticus 44:14 in the King James Version of the Bible which appears on this war memorial window. (visit link)

It was 'Rudyard Kipling who recommended the inscription ‘Their name liveth for evermore’ for each Stone of Remembrance, a biblical text from the Book of Ecclesiasticus. He also penned a simple tribute for the headstones of the unidentified dead: ‘A soldier of the Great War. Known unto God.’

This war memorial can be found close to the Borough Chapel on Grencrutchery Road. the memorial is dedicated to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in WWI.

This memorial is 'a 'Meta-memorial' in that it records the names of the various Island graveyards in which the war dead were interred rather than the names of the actual dead.' (visit link)

The War Memorials website describes this memorial as follows:
'Cross of Sacrifice identical in design to Commonwealth War Graves Commission cross, in main town cemetery. Two sandstone plaques set into and next to each other within a walled semi-circle behind a sandstone 3 tiered column. Sandstone cross in centre. Bronze sword on front face of cross. NB - it is clear from the inscription that this is NOT a CWGC Cross of Sacrifice, but made to an identical design. Isle of Man National Inventory of War Memorials: IOM_NIWM_DOU_00020' (visit link)

The inscription which displayed on 3 consecutive sides of an 8 sided polygon below the cross is as follows:

"THIS CROSS OF SACRIFICE IS ONE IN DESIGN
AND INTENTION WITH THOSE WHICH HAVE
BEEN SET UP IN FRANCE AND BELGIUM AND
OTHER PLACES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
WHERE OUR DEAD OF THE
GREAT WAR ARE LAID TO REST.'

Around the base of the plinth is the following inscription:

'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERYMORE.'

The inscription on the two plaques set into the wall behind the cross read as follows:

'TO THE HOUNOURED MEMORY
OF THOSE MEMBBERS OF HIS MAJESTY'S FORCES
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY
IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918
