Located along the Merritt Trail (which at that location is also the Welland Canal Trail), this Bailey bridge appears to be a replacement for a much older bridge, based on the limestone abutments on which the bridge sits. I suspect but am not certain that the channel over which the bridge passes may be part of the third Welland canal (built 1872 - 1881) as the former Lock 25 of that canal is located nearby (no longer visible).

Unfortunately I could not find anything out about this particular bridge.

About the Merritt Trail:

In honour of William Hamilton Merritt, the man who directed the creation of the First Welland Canal (1829), the Merritt Trail begins in Port Dalhousie on Lake Ontario at the remnants of what was once a vital connection from lake-to-lake. The trail follows the path of the former canals, including mills and old locks that once depended on them. In Thorold, the Merritt Trail unites with the present Fourth Welland Canal, and continues across to Port Colborne in Lake Erie.
