The Town of Agawam, MA has launched a program to honor town residents who were killed in service to their country in wars from the Civil War to the present. The plaques are places on street posts nearest to where they lived in Agawam.

A 3' long by 1' high, double sided, rectangular, metal plaque with rounded corners is painted black with white lettering. It contains the insignia of the Department of the United Stated Army on the left side and the inscription:

S/Sgt. - 305th Inf. Regiment
Roland E. Bessette
U.S. Army
* K.I.A.-Aug. 2, 1944 - WWII *

Roland E. Bessette, 31095889, was killed in action during the Battle of Guam which took place in the Pacific Theater between July 21, 1944 and August 10, 1944.
