Immediately after President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, places were set up all over the world to keep the memory of him alive. In the Netherlands this started in 1964 with a tunnel in Amsterdam. Many cities and towns chose to name a street or square after JFK.
This also happened here in Ulft, a village with 10,455 inhabitants. The square in front of the Roman Catholic Church was changed from Kerkplein (Church Square) to J.F. Kennedyplein.
