Long Description:
From Find A Grave: Revolutionary War Continental Army Brigadier General. At the start of Revolutionary War he was assisting his father in the management of his estates when commissioned as Major and aide-de-camp to General Washington in October 1775. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel of the 3rd Battalion New Jersey troops, he helped organize the 4th Regiment Light Dragoons in the Continental Army and was promoted Colonel in February 1780. Ordered by Washington to take command of all the cavalry in the Southern Army, he was in actions against Lord Cornwallis in South Carolina. In 1781, he was promoted Brigadier General and joined the army under Lafayette in Virginia for the remainder of the war. After the war he resided in New York and was appointed by President George Washington general of cavalry in the expedition against the western insurgents.
