This bridgless crossing is actually next to a narrow footbridge.

The footbridge was originally built in 1723 to carry packhorses but is now restricted for pedestrian use.

All other traffic, cyclists, horses and vehicles have to use the ford. It leads from Beckfoot farm to Beckfoot Lane and crosses Howden Beck.
