Long Description:
This lychgate gives access to the old Roman Catholic cemetery of Zutphen and was built in 1902. Now no more people are buried. The Catholic Church from which the funerals took place (Sint Johannes de Doperkerk) is located in the center of Zutphen. The funeral procession went from the city center to this cemetery. The gate was then opened and the coffin with the deceased could be set up dry here. The priest could start here with the last part of the funeral rites and then the deceased was taken to the tomb.
