Museum De Schilpen ligt in het centrum van Maasland aan een pittoresk schelpenpleintje. Je stapt hier, onder het geklingel van de winkelbel, letterlijk terug in de tijd. De sfeer van de winkel en het huis ervaart u alleen door ons ook écht te komen bezoeken. De toegang is gratis!
Het museum toont de geschiedenis van het dorp Maasland en bestaat uit een winkel met woonhuis en aangrenzend pakhuis en een renteniershuis. Aan de achterkant van het gebouw is De Schilpen in 2013 uitgebreid met het binnenplein, dat het museum verbindt met gebouw Tavenu, oorspronkelijk de feest- en vergaderzaal uit 1905. De oudste delen van het woonhuis dateren uit de 16e eeuw. De voorgevel werd in de eerste helft van de 19e eeuw vernieuwd en is daarna niet meer ingrijpend gewijzigd.
De winkel van het museum heeft niet alleen de originele inrichting van begin 1900, maar is ook een echte winkel. U kunt hier terecht voor ouderwets lekker snoep. Achter de winkel is het woonhuis met kamers en keuken, ingericht in de stijl van rond 1900 met fornuis, pomp en oorspronkelijke kastenwand.
Een bezoek aan Museum De Schilpen is niet compleet zonder een kijkje op de grote zolder, met onder andere een verzameling streekeigen gereedschappen van boer en ambachtsman. Op de woonzolder is een meidenkamer en een uitgebreide textieltentoonstelling met wisselende opstellingen.

Museum De Schilpen is located in the center of Maasland on a picturesque shell square. Here you literally step back in time under the tinkling of the shop bell. You will only experience the atmosphere of the shop and the house by actually coming to visit us. Entrance is free!
The museum shows the history of the village of Maasland and consists of a shop with a house and adjoining warehouse and a rentier house. At the rear of the building, De Schilpen was expanded in 2013 with the inner square, which connects the museum with the Tavenu building, originally the party and meeting room from 1905. The oldest parts of the house date from the 16th century. The façade was renovated in the first half of the 19th century and has not been radically changed since then.
The museum shop not only has the original decor from the early 1900s, but is also a real shop. You can go here for old-fashioned delicious candy. Behind the shop is the house with rooms and kitchen, furnished in the style of around 1900 with stove, pump and original cupboard wall.
A visit to Museum De Schilpen is not complete without a look at the large attic, which includes a collection of regional tools from farmers and craftsmen. In the attic is a girls' room and an extensive textile exhibition with varying arrangements.
