Located south of Arcadia, Florida at the confluence of the Peace River and Deep Creek is the Nav-A-Gator Bar and Grill. This dockside dining establishment has a large mural that decorates the entire front of the building. Painted August 2, 2018 by Ron Mills the mural depicts a Florida wetlands landscape in its natural form. It shows the various kinds of flora and fauna that one could expect to see in nature.
The mural is a continuous painting running approximately 50 feet. Starting with a rendition of the owners being hugged by a comical alligator and the geographical coordinates of the location the background has a typical wild Florida landscape with palm trees, wetlands, Sand Hill Crane and chicks and Florida’s famous sunny skies. It also depicts cypress trees and cypress knees, alligators, an anhinga drying its wings on a sign, an osprey catching fish, heron, rosette spoonbills and egrets roosting. Deer, armadillo, boaters on the river, raccoon, ibis, turtle, wild hogs, a swallowtail kite, along with cabbage palms, bromeliads, and Spanish moss that capture a true version of the “Real Florida” before development.
Located at 9700 SW Riverview Circle, Arcadia, FL 34269 this mural can be viewed anytime of the day. Best time for photos would be in the mornings before opening at 11:00 a.m. due to the parking spaces if front of the establishment filling up quickly.
