Four Byzantine monuments of great archaeological importance are located in Lygourio: Agios Ioannis Eleimonas (Saint John the Beneficent), Panagitsa (the Church of the Assumption), Saint John the Theologian and Saint Marina.

The Church of Saint John the Beneficent, a typical example of the so-called Helladic School of Byzantine architecture, is a wonderful 12th century prayer house that was recently restored (2011 - 2012).
