Dit Monument voor de gevallen Engelse vliegers is een geschenk van bewoners van de Noordsingel. De aanleiding was een door de Duitsers neergehaald Engels squadron van de Britse Royal Air Force (RAF). Men herdenkt met dit monument de omgekomen bemanning van het neergeschoten oorlogsvliegtuig, dat op 16 juli 1941 op de Noordsingel voor het Gerechtsgebouw neerstortte. Volgens de bewoners hebben de vliegers het neerstortende toestel destijds zodanig gemanoeuvreerd dat het niet op de bebouwing neerkwam, waardoor veel burgerlevens gespaard zijn gebleven. Het monument is gemaakt door beeldhouwer Willem Verbon en bestaat uit drie zandstenen platen en een bakstenen kopmuur met houten steiger. In het midden is een reliëf van een zwevende mannenfiguur zichtbaar met aan weerszijden een danktekst voor de RAF, één in het Engels en één in het Nederlands. De tekst is als volgt: “In dankbare herinnering aan de mannen van de RAF die hun leven gaven voor de vrijheid der Nederlanden. Geschenk van Noordsingelbewoners”.

T/o 1517 Horsham St Faith. Hit by Flak and crashed 1700 in the Noordsingel at Rotterdam. All were buried in the local Crooswijk General Cemetery. Since the war, a memorial to the crew has been placed near the crash site and this has been adopted by a local school.
ik weet niet zo goed wat de afkortingen betekenen, maar het lijkt erop dat de vliegniers T.N. Partridge, G.A. Dvorjetz en J.O.N. Smith door hun actie vele burgerdoden hebben kunnen voorkomen.

This Monument to the fallen English airmen is a gift from residents of the Noordsingel. The reason was an English squadron of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) taken down by the Germans. This memorial commemorates the killed crew of the downed warplane that crashed on the Noordsingel in front of the Courthouse on 16 July 1941. According to the residents, the pilots maneuvered the crashing plane in such a way that it did not land on the buildings, which saved many civilian lives. The monument was created by sculptor Willem Verbon and consists of three sandstone slabs and a brick end wall with wooden scaffolding. In the center is a relief of a floating male figure with a text of thanks for the RAF on either side, one in English and one in Dutch. The text is as follows: “In grateful memory of the men of the RAF who gave their lives for the freedom of the Netherlands. Gift from Noordsingel residents ”.

I'm not sure what the abbreviations mean, but it looks like the T.N. Partridge, G.A. Dvorjetz and J.O.N. Smith prevented many civilian deaths through their action.
