M102 105mm Howitzer was adopted into service in 1964 and deployed in Vietnam in 1966. The M102 replaced the M101a1, a WWII design. Being lighter the M102 could be towed by a 3/4 ton truck and was easier to sling load under a helicopter. Now replaced in the US Army by the M119 the M102 is still serving in the United States Air Force on AC-130 gunships.
