Description:
Melzar Hunt Mosman was born in Chicopee, MA. He was the son of Silas Mosman, who ran the Ames Manufacturing Company's bronze foundry. Before he enlisted in the Civil War he worked in the Ames Manufacturing Company Foundry to produce swords. After the war he returned to the company where he became their primary sculptor. During his prolific career he produced many sculptures, many of which honored the veterans of the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. His memorials can be found in many cities and towns, especially in the New England states.
