[FR] L'église Sainte-Marie était incluse dans la " maison " les Templiers de Sainte-Eulalie à La Cavalerie. Elle comprenait une série de bâtiments autour d'une petite cour intérieure : église avec son cimetière, logis, tour carrée, et bâtiments agricoles, accessibles par une porte. Le village va se développer aux abords de cette bâtisse. En cas de danger les habitants devant trouver refuge dans l'enclos des Templiers.

Les Hospitaliers fortifient le bourg en 1435 (9 ans avant La Cavalerie et 14 ans avant Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon). L'enceinte quadrangulaire est pourvue de trois tours rondes et d'une tour carrée appelée donjon carré des Templiers et située au niveau du chœur de l'église actuelle. La Cavalerie devient alors un bourg prospère comptant marchands, notables, professions libérales.

[EN] The Saint Marie church was included in the "house" of the Templars of Sainte-Eulalie at La Cavalerie. It was comprised of a series of building around a small interior courtyard : church with its cemetery, living quarters, square tower, and farm buildings accessible through a door. The village developed on the edges of this construction. In case of danger, the inhabitants found refuge within the enclosure of the Templars.

The Hospitallers fortified the village center in 1435, nine years before La Couvertoirade and fourteen years before Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon. The quadrangular wall was fortified with three round towers and a square tower called the square keep of the Templars and situated where the church choir is today.
