This is the lychgate at the graveyard of the former Christchuch, located nearby in Westbourne Street. The old graveyard has been turned into a Garden of Rest. It is built of wood supported by low stone side walls. The churchyard cross still stands in the centre of the garden. An adjacent house is still known as Lychgate Cottage.
Engraved into the crossbar of the gate is the following inscription :-
"This od churchyard was restored and made into a Garden of Rest by public subscription - 1949"
