"It replaced an old Romanesque church, too damaged to be repaired, of which no vestige remains today.

History The old church of Saint-Augustin, of medieval foundation, was located in the district of "Bourg", on a small rocky eminence which formerly dominated the Gulf of Barbareu and a small fishing port. In accordance with tradition, it was surrounded by a small cemetery. Dependency of the Saint-Étienne de Vaux abbey, it was in an advanced state of disrepair at the beginning of the 19th century, and required extensive restoration work that the town could not finance.

On the fringes of the parish center, the Logis du Breuil was then an old noble residence which, like many other areas, had a private chapel. The latter, which dates from the 18th century, was enlarged in 1843. The owner of the estate, Mrs. Manes, agreed to donate the chapel on the sole condition that she obtained the status of parish church from the episcopate. This condition having been accepted, the donation procedure was initiated on November 26, 1858 and on August 2, 1859, it became the property of the municipality.

Description It is a small church consisting of a simple vaulted nave in a basket handle and extended by an apse in the bottom of the oven. It has a small single bay wall bell tower and only has one bell.

The facade, of classical inspiration with triangular dentil pediment, dates from 1859. It is the work of the architect Sauvion.

The interior, of great sobriety, forms a single aisle lit by large semicircular bays, which is extended by a hemicyclindrical apse. The fully paneled ceiling is in a basket handle. The high altar, of Baroque inspiration, is framed by several statues (Saint Joan of Arc, Saint Michael, Saint Thérèse). A large wooden pulpit is attached to the wall.

The church has a small bell dating from 1773 from a Scandinavian ship, classified as historical objects since March 25, 1938. "

Historique L'ancienne église de Saint-Augustin, de fondation médiévale, se trouvait dans le quartier du « Bourg », sur une petite éminence rocheuse qui dominait autrefois le golfe du Barbareu et un petit port de pêche. Conformément à la tradition, elle était entourée d'un petit cimetière. Dépendance de l'abbaye Saint-Étienne de Vaux, elle se trouve dans un état de délabrement avancé au début du XIXe siècle, et nécessite de profonds travaux de restauration que la commune ne peut financer.

En marge du centre paroissial, le logis du Breuil est alors une ancienne demeure noble qui possède, comme beaucoup d'autres domaines, une chapelle privée. Cette dernière, qui date du XVIIIe siècle, est agrandie en 1843. La propriétaire du domaine, Mme Manes, accepte de faire don de la chapelle à la seule condition qu'elle obtienne de l'épiscopat le statut d'église paroissiale. Cette condition ayant été acceptée, la procédure de donation est engagée le 26 novembre 1858 et le 2 août 1859, elle devient propriété de la commune.

Description C'est une petite église constituée d'une simple nef voûtée en anse de panier et prolongée d'une abside en cul de four. Elle possède un petit clocher mur à baie unique et ne possède qu'une cloche.

La façade, d'inspiration classique avec fronton triangulaire à denticules, date de 1859. Elle est l'œuvre de l'architecte Sauvion.

L'intérieur, d'une grande sobriété, forme un vaisseau unique éclairé de grandes baies en plein cintre, qui se prolonge par une abside hémicyclindrique. Le plafond, entièrement lambrissé, est en anse de panier. Le maître-autel, d'inspiration baroque, est encadré de plusieurs statues (sainte Jeanne d'Arc, saint Michel, sainte Thérèse). Une grande chaire en bois est accolée au mur.

L'église possède une petite cloche datant de 1773 provenant d'un navire scandinave, classée au titre des objets historiques depuis le 25 mars 1938."
