Das LVR-LandesMuseum (auch bekannt als Rheinisches Landesmuseum) wurde 1820 gegründet und ist damit eines der ältesten Museen Deutschlands. Es trug zu Beginn den Namen "Museum Rheinisch-Westfälischer Altertümer". Im zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Museum zerstört und erst 1967 wiedereröffnet. Die heutige auffällige Fassade aus Glas und dahinter liegenden Holzpanelen stammt aus dem Umbau und der Erweiterung des Museums 2003.

Die Dauerausstellung des Museums zeigt die archäologische, kunst- und kulturhistorische Entwicklung des Rheinlands von der Steinzeit bis zur Gegenwart. Dazu zählen die Überreste der Neandertaler ebenso wie Goldschmuck der Kelten oder römische Grabsteine. Meisterwerke der Kunst gehören genauso wie alltägliche Gebrauchsgegenstände zur umfangreichen Sammlung des Museums.

Neben der Daueraustellung gibt es auch wechselnde Ausstellungen zu verschiedenen Themen, die jedoch in der Regel auch einen Bezug zum Rheinland haben. Außerdem widmet sich das Museum maßgeblich der Geschichtsforschung und Restaurierung von gefundenen Objekten. Für Schulklassen werden interaktive Führungen, Workshops und Bildungsangebote veranstaltet.

The LVR-LandesMuseum (also known as the Rheinisches Landesmuseum) was founded in 1820, making it one of the oldest museums in Germany. At the beginning it was called "Museum Rheinisch-Westfälischer Altertümer". The museum was destroyed in the Second World War and only reopened in 1967. Today's eye-catching glass facade with wooden panels behind it comes from the renovation and expansion of the museum in 2003.

The museum's permanent exhibition shows the archaeological, artistic and cultural-historical development of the Rhineland from the Stone Age to the present. This includes the remains of the Neanderthals as well as gold jewelry from the Celts and Roman gravestones. Art masterpieces as well as everyday objects belong to the museum's extensive collection.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are also changing exhibitions on various topics, which, however, are usually also related to the Rhineland. The museum is also largely dedicated to historical research and the restoration of found objects. Interactive tours, workshops and educational offers are organized for school classes.
