Redevelopment of the area around the Aberfeldy Estate in Poplar is in full swing at the time of writing (November 2020). A green strip between high-density new blocks of flats has been designated New Village Avenue and the point where this is crossed by the Greenwich Meridian is marked by a brass line across the pavement.
The line is one of a small number of pieces of urban art which have been included in the development. Produced by AB Fine Art Foundry, the marker takes the form of a brass strip set into the pavement at an appropriate angle. Wording along the line reads “The Prime Meridian Line 0° Longitude”. This wording appears twice, once readable from the east and once readable from the west.
