Bernhard Warkentin was instrumental in a Mennonite migration from Russia into Kansas. He found success here as a farmer and miller, and he is one of those who helped make Kansas the "Bread Basket of the World." He married Wilhelmina Eisenmayer in 1875 and had this home constructed for them and their family a decade later. He died in 1908; she lived here until her own death in 1932. The house still contains much of the original furnishing, and is open for tours. This gazebo, constructed in a Victorial style, is behind the house, where you will also see a Victorian-style carriage house.
