Cette église catholique romaine est située sur la rue du Rosaire dans l'arrondissement Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension de la ville de Montréal.
Son territoire paroissial est tiré des paroisses de Saint-Laurent et de la Visitation du Sault-au-Récollet. Le nom de Villeray rappelle la mémoire de Louis Rouer de Villeray, sieur d'Artigny (1629-1700), qui fut membre du conseil souverain de la Nouvelle-France en 1663, la même année où il reçut, en héritage de son beau-père, un fief qu'il nomma « Villeray ». Le territoire est érigé en municipalité de village le 30 septembre 1896 et est annexé à la ville de Montréal le 30 novembre 1905. Depuis le 1er janvier 2002, il fait maintenant partie de l'arrondissement Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension.
La paroisse est érigée canoniquement le 18 septembre 1905 par Mgr Paul Bruchési (1855-1939), archevêque (1897-1939) de Montréal.
Les plans d'une église et d'un presbytère sont élaborés par les architectes Dalbé Viau (1881-1938) et Louis-Alphonse Venne (1875-1934). Les travaux de construction, confiés à la firme Filion & Frères, débutent par la crypte qui est inaugurée le 24 décembre 1917. En 1927, on décide de construire l'église supérieure. La construction, exécutée par la firme Ulric Boileau, débute en 1928 et se termine en 1930.
L'église est bâtie dans le style byzantin-romain.

This Roman Catholic church is located on du Rosaire Street in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension borough of the city of Montreal.
The parish territory was taken from the St. Laurent and Visitation of the Sault-au-Récollet parishes. The Villeray name honors the memory of Louis Rouer de Villeray, Sieur d'Artigny (1629-1700), who was a member of the New France Sovereign Council in 1663, the same year he accepted, in inheritance from his stepfather, a fief which he named "Villeray". The territory was established as a village municipality on September 30th, 1896, and was annexed to the city of Montréal on November 30th, 1905. Since January 1st, 2002, it belongs to the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension District.
The parish was canonically established on September 18th, 1905, by Paul Bruchési (1855-1939), archbishop of Montreal (1897-1939).
The plans for a church and a presbytery were prepared by architects Dalbé Viau (1881-1938) and Louis-Alphonse Venne (1875-1934). Construction work, entrusted to the Filion et Frères firm, started with the crypt which was inaugurated on December 24th, 1917. In 1927, it was decided to build the upper church. The construction, carried out by the Ulric Boileau firm, started in 1928 and was completed in 1930.
The church is built in the Byzantine-Roman style.
