The construction of the door system was probably started during Swedish occupation during the 30 years war ( 1633-1634) and was completed by Prince Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn in the years 1652 and 1653. The top gable of the gate contains the Schönborn coat of arms, and this is also held by lions. There are two statues of lions atop the gable. The lions symbolize strength and emphasize the authenticity of the structure and the defenders against advancing enemies.
