Cast iron mile marker on the National Road West of Cumberland, MD

The cast iron mile marker was placed along the National Road in the 1830's. The 55 1/2 inch tall makers were were forged at John Snowden's foundry in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. The marker is located across from the an old toll house and next to one of the toll gate post.
