This church on the south side of Chicago has a unique building and a unique role in the history of Gospel music.

This church building was designed by Illinois's first licensed African American architect. It is known for having broadcast its services on the radio for more than 80 years. This broadcast made the church an important trendsetter, so to speak, in Gospel music. Music that was played or performed at the church often became very commercially successful and spread to other communities.
First Church is a Christian church that describe their beliefs as "a spiritual church of love and faith." They have the Apostle's Creed posted on their website. On their Facebook page they state, "We are a spiritual church that believes in one Lord, one faith, one baptism and one race (the human race). Our doors are open to all."
