Height of waycross: over 6 feet

Cairn and crucifix erected by the Germans at the entrance, from the east, of their city. It sits on the edge of a vineyard for the Hermanhoff Winery today.

The original purpose was a waycross for the local to pray as they traveled into and out of the city.
Oral from a local that it was built in the 19th century

Type of cross: Latin cross

Material used: Metal (steel, bronze, aluminium, ...)

Characteristics of this cross:
Crucifix, had fillet rounded on the ends of each part of the cross, with the crown of thorns around the intersection of the vertical and horizonal parts.

Below the feet is a broach in a wreath. Age and time have blurred the image inside the broach.

At the foot of the cross, and on top of the cairn are two cherib like angels looking up.



Describe the location:
Between the highway and the vinyard on the eastern limits of the city, slightly up a grade.
