St. Elmo School House - St. Elmo, CO - One-Room Schoolhouses on Waymarking.com

The St. Elmo School was built in 1882. When you look through the window you can see the original woodstove, chaulk boad and desks. I do believe that the school is open during the summer month so that you may get a look at it from the inside.

Since there was no church in St. Elmo the school was used for services.

"A single teacher taught from the first grade to the eigth grade. By the 1940's, there was one remaining student so the school was shut down. Teh black boards are not made of slate. There are boards covered with canvas and painted with a black tarry substance."

The School is owned by the Buena Vista Heritage Group.
