"The Fire Museum of Texas opened in 1984 in the historic Central Fire Headquarters Station located at 400 Walnut Street in downtown Beaumont. In 1986 the State Firemen’s & Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas endorsed the museum as the official Fire Museum of Texas. The group continues to support the museum with funding and encourages fire fighters from around the state to support the mission of the Museum.
The Fire Museum is home to an extensive collection of fire engines and firefighting equipment dating back to 1856. Discover the history of the fire service and the advances in fire fighting as you move through the exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to view and add to our extensive collection of fire department badges and patches.
The Museum offers children the opportunity to dress in fire gear and experience what it is like behind the wheel of a fire truck on an American LaFrance simulator. See Pluggie the robot in action, practice fire safety drills or watch fire safety videos in the Fire Theatre.
The Activity Center located upstairs offers visitors an educational look into fire safety and prevention. See where fire fighters slept at night and peek down the pole where they slid down when the alarm went off. The International collection includes gear and patches from around the world. A life size Smokey Bear awaits you and a nostalgic photo opportunity. A highlight of upstairs is the miniature two-story house where families are offered the chance to practice fire escape drills, teach dialing 911, and practice stop, drop, cover your eyes, and roll."
