This beautiful monument dedicated to the Portuguese soldiers in the wars of Africa (1961-1975) can be seen in Coimbra, a town in central Portugal.

This monument is placed on a stone plinth. On the plinth there is a bronze plate with the inscription "Aos Heróis do Ultramar", which means "To the heroes of Ultramar (as a short name to the Portuguese designation to the three wars thought in Africa in the second half of the 20th century: Guerra do Ultramar). There is a coat of arms over the dedication.
The sculpture represents a Portuguese soldier with is gun (an HK G-3) in his hand and a little boy over his shoulders. The soldier is wearing a common combat fatigue.
The monument is located in a square named after itself: Praça Heróis do Ultramar.
