Established in 1849, Bethel Baptist Church is located on FM-350 in an unincorporated section of Polk County about 10 miles NNW of Livingston, TX. It has served the surrounding rural communities for over 170 years. The church itself was built in 1901.

Per a Texas historical marker by the church building's entrance:

"Built 1901 for congregation organized Jan. 6, 1849, by Rev. J. W. D. Creath, among settlers from Louisiana. Membership in early days included the family slaves. First church, located at Colita, an early Polk County town, was moved in 1872 to Bold Springs.
