"The Pedregal de Irimia, born in the Miño, is a natural hydrographic enclave located on the western slope of the Serra de Meira, 3 kilometers from the town.

The Pedregal is similar to a river of stones, of very large stones arranged in a curiously natural way, like a funnel.

Its extension is approximately 700 meters and at the end of this funnel there is a small stream of water, which can be seen if you climb its stones and listen carefully to the murmur of the water, as it is not seen due to the plugging of the stones.

This water is born from numerous springs distributed throughout the Sierra, and in particular, one of them located at the top of the Pedregal, where the water of all of them joins, forming the beginning of the Miño that supplies water to Meira and all Galicia.

For a long time there was a great controversy about whether the birth of the Miño was in the Pedregal de Irimia or in the lagoon of Fonmiñá, in the City Council of A Pastoriza.

This lagoon is a deep-water outcrop, linked to karst and / or hydrothermal processes that arises below the source of the Miño. This is the conclusion reached by hydrography experts, after introducing meters to check the depth of the springs and thus concluded that both the Sierra and the Meira Valley are located on a large raft of water and, therefore, is born water at different points, one of them, the lagoon of Fonmiñá.

The Pedregal is a special place: majestic, dominant, exciting ... It is like a stream of stone, in the shape of a funnel, located at the top of the mountain, as if watching the whole valley that can be seen from it, which extends at the foot of the rocks.

The rocks appear to have been placed there by a human hand and not by purely natural phenomena.

Being located in the Pedregal de Irimia gives the visitor a special feeling ... of pure contact with Nature.

In the vicinity of the Pedregal there is a recreation area to facilitate the stay of the many people who come to this place to commune with Nature, to check that it is still possible to get in touch with Mother Earth in places as unique as this."
