The Forest Trail passes through one of the small forests that still remain at the Mount Vernon Estate, home to the first USA President George Washington from 1754-1799.
The trail does pass over some low lying, wetter areas, so the boardwalks were constructed to make travel easier for those willing to explore a more sylvan environment at the estate.
