Trafalgar Lodge
Trafalgar Lodge
Designed in 1848 by architect John George Howard, this comfortable, picturesque residence is a fine representative example of a Gothic Revival-style villa. It is distinguished by its asymmetrical form, prominent gables, dormers, and clustered chimney stacks that create a bold profile against the sky. Details such as window frames and label mouldings are executed in a strongly sculptural manner, and are alternately ecclesiastical and domestic in spirit. The building’s polychromy, with light stone trim highlighting its red brick walls, recalls late medieval domestic architecture in Europe.
