“De lopende man” dateert uit 1987 en is gemaakt door Peter Erftemeijer. In dat jaar werd het eerste exemplaar ervan geplaatst in Zutphen. Het exemplaar in Tilburg dateert uit 1990.
“De lopende man” is met twee andere kunstwerken aangekocht ter opluistering van de in 1990 gebouwde winkelgalerij Schouwburgpromenade. Oorspronkelijk was het beeld op de klinkers van de Oude Markt geplaatst. Later is het beeld op een grijs plateau geplaatst, iets dat in 2005 tot kritiek leidde omdat het plateau zou indruisen tegen de bedoeling van Erftemeijer.
Nu door corona de terrassen flink moeten uitbreiden zo je zomaar een hapje kunnen eten of een drankje kunnen doen naast dit standbeeld. Hier lijkt me door de terras-eigenaar niet goed over nagedacht.

The walking man dates from 1987 and was created by Peter Erftemeijer. In that year the first copy was placed in Zutphen. The copy in Tilburg dates from 1990.
The walking man, along with two other works of art, was purchased to liven up the Schouwburgpromenade shopping gallery built in 1990. Originally the statue was placed on the pavers of the Oude Markt. The statue was later placed on a gray plateau, something that led to criticism in 2005 because the plateau would go against Erftemeijer's intention.
Now due to corona the terraces have to expand considerably. As a result you can just have a bite to eat or a drink next to this statue. This seems to me not well thought out by the terrace owner.
