Last week, this newspaper reflected a curious situation in the city of Pontevedra: some of the main public clocks in the city, such as those of La Peregrina, the old town hall or the provincial hospital do not work, they are stopped. But things have changed, at least in one case. The Council, which is responsible for the clock in the temple, contacted the watch company that always took care of this machinery to proceed with its repair. And yesterday, Pedro Pagán, a watchmaker from Vigo, finished his work and the hands of the clock are already on time - the chimes go by another system, electronic, and they were already working. Pagán explained that the watch had not worked for a long time because it was difficult to fix it. «The house that made it, in the Basque Country, closed. And you couldn't get a missing piece. At the end,
There is a whole story behind the repair. Pagán had to order a special tempered steel from Germany to be able to make that piece. Then, spend hours in the workshop and, finally, put the piece in its place. "It is a piece that affected the suspension, it can be said that the watch had a problem right in its heart," he said wryly. Now, Pagán is concerned that the clock keeps ticking, that it does not stop. So even though he finished work in the morning, he came back in the afternoon to see that it was going well.
"Do not wind it up"
Although the Peregrina's watch is mechanical and wind-wound, it incorporates a kind of motor that makes the watch wind itself, therefore its maintenance does not have to be so continuous. Even so, Pedro Pagán insists that it must be checked every step of the way, because it is affected by changes in temperature, as well as circumstances such as bird droppings or the dirt in the environment itself. Indicates that, at a minimum, it should be thoroughly cleaned twice a year.Point out that the hands will not keep up with the chimes. Because the latter are electronic and they go on their own.
