Historical marker says this about the bell:
The bell on the lawn originally hung in a steeple, and rang for special events as well as worship.
The bell is supported on 4 metal legs. It is approximately 5' off the ground. It still has the clapper, and although the wheel to ring it has no rope attached, if you are tall enough and strong enough the bell can still be rung.
