No one can really claim to know Stuttgart without having made a trip to one of its mineral baths.

The springs Stuttgart - Bad Cannstatt and Berg make up the second largest mineral water system in Europe after Budapest. No fewer than 19 springs and fountains pour out 22 million liters a day of differently mineralized water which is at times full of carbon. "It appears as though nature wanted to pour out its entire supply of mineral water at once," the ducal personal physician Dr. Gesner aptly described the abundance of water caused by the outlet of mineral water and the unique natural treasure of Stuttgart in the year 1749. Around a third of the overall amount is used in spa and bathing operations. Eleven springs have the title "state recognized healing spring".

A couple of hours at Leuze is a wonderful and healthy way to recharge the batteries. There are eight different bathing areas, with water temperatures of 20°C, 24°C, 30°C and 34°C, ranging from naturally cold to warm and relaxing.

The two healing springs have a high concentration of carbon and flow at 20° Celsius directly from the spring for swimming without chlorine. (All the pools above 20° C are heated artificially).

Das Leuze has 3 different healing and mineral springs, among them both carbonated water and briny water. They bubble in the pools of the large bathing landscape, in the Russian - Roman steam bath, in the sauna, in the tub baths and in the therapeutic movement bath of the health center.

The Inselquelle and Leuzequelle are classified as Heilquellen meaning of medicinal value and contain sodium and calcium cloride and carbon dioxide. The Mombachquelle is a mineral spring which is not classified as having medicinal properties.

An indoor sitting pool and a "movement" pool are filled from the Leuzequelle and heated to 34°. The movement pool is remarkable due to the obvious bubbling of carbonate coming out of solution. The largest pool which is indoor/outdoor is filled from the Mombachquelle and is heated to 30°. Another indoor pool off to the side is filled from the Inselquelle and is at 20°. Another outdoor pool is filled from the Mombachquelle and is heated to 24°.

Nine differently tempered steam and sauna rooms with outdoor sauna and a comfortable cooling pool, scented oils, essences of herbs and alternating colored light make going to the sauna in the Leuze even more invigorating and refreshing and relaxingly relieves the stress.

Attractive fountains from the waterfall to the streaming channel, a mineral water Kneipp facility, orderly solariums, sports and play grounds, a café restaurant and summer restaurant are the ideal background for the exciting bathing hours with the fitness effect in the heart of Stuttgart.

Since August 2005, the mineral bath LEUZE has expanded upon its offer and introduced the long evening opening times of the mineral sauna and the possibility of nude swimming.

The shy types may wonder, how does a visit to the spa work?

Well, come prepared with swimsuit, towel, and shower soap as these are not provided. When you enter the facility, you will see a counter where you pay the entrance fee which is €7.00 for 2.0 hours if you are an adult. This includes entrance to the sauna area. You will receive a token or chip which you then insert into a turnstyle. Once you insert it, you will be able to pass the turnstyle and the token will be spit out. You need to keep the token.

Proceed to the changing area where there are a number of cabins. You walk in on one side, change your clothes, and then walk out the other side to the pools. The cabin doors are locked and released while inside by a lever near the base of the bench.

Once outside of the changing cabin, you will find the lockers with the keys hanging from them. (If the key isn't there, then it means the locker is already taken). Insert the token into the slot on the inside of the door. This will allow you to remove the key, and lock the locker.

You then strap the key to your wrist (the token remains in the locker).

Don't forget to take a shower before going into the pools.

When you're finished, you will need the token again to exit through the turnstyle. (Opening the locker with the key will cause the token to be released).

The Sauna and Steam Bath may be "textile free" and are mixed men/women. The swimming pools are not textile free except on special days/times. Call them or have your hotel call them if you have a doubt.

The outdoor pool is at 30° C which will feel a bit chilly when the weather turns cold. The benefit of the relatively low temperature is that you can stay in it a long time. The 34° pools are quite nice and relaxing and not too hot.
