Robber's Cave, in the sandstone hills of what is now Robber's Cave State Park, sheltered many an outlaw after the Civil War. It is said that Jesse James and the Dalton Gang were among those who made use of this hideaway. Female outlaw Belle Starr, who had a house about twenty miles from here, is also associated with the cave and the lodge at the Park is named in her honor. Her silhouette is at the entrance to the parking lot to the lodge.
