EN The Pradeau battery, also known as the Fondue tower, is an old fort, located to the south of the Giens peninsula, in the Var department and in the town of Hyères.

History
The fort is the vestige of an old defensive tower from the seventeenth century, probably built around 1634 under Richelieu, south of the Giens peninsula. It makes it easy to locate the port reserved for ships serving the island of Porquerolles. This small polygonal structure was reworked in the 17th and 19th centuries. In 1881, he was still armed with 2 rifled guns (30 guns). The natural site has been decommissioned and the fort abandoned.

Also called the “Pradeau battery”, the Fondue tower was listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments in 1989.

In 1978, this structure became the property of the Port-Cros national park, which restored it in 1991. The building was closed to the public for security reasons.
