The Department of Culture and Sports of a Xunta de Galicia has confirmed the execution of the work to improve and refurbish the tower that houses the clock of the Monastery of San Salvador de Celanova. After years of waiting, the department headed by Ánxela Bugallo has allocated a budget of 185,396 euros for the execution of this reform. The works will consist of the interior and exterior conditioning of the tower. Located at the foot of the church, in front of the monastery, a couple of years ago the department showed its interest in rehabilitating the well-known tower of the Abbots. At the top, a mechanical watch dating back to 1830 by the Ferrol watchmaker Andrés Antelo is still active today. The tower, which offers spectacular views over Celanova and the Monastery of San Salvador itself, has never been open to residents or visitors to the town.
