Statue of the student Carl Linné or Linnaeus can be found at Petriplatsen in Lund. Artist Ansgar Almquist created the statue in 1938. Carl Linnaeus studied in Lund 1727-28.
In August 1727, at the age of 20, Linnaeus arrived in the university town of Lund to study medicine. He rented a room at the home of Dr. Kilian Stobaeus. Kilian Stobaeus had a large collection of animals and plants, which Linnaeus now had the opportunity to study.
During his year in Lund, Linnaeus explored nature in the province of Skåne by going on expeditions around Lund. One day visited Dr. Rothman, Linnaeus' old teacher from Växjö him. He believed that Linnaeus should instead study medicine at Uppsala University. Rothman was convinced that Uppsala had better teachers, a better library and a well-stocked garden.
