Paulina le Fèvre de Montigny–Bisdom van Vliet was de laatste bewoner van deze patriciërswoning uit de negentiende eeuw. Zij was een bijzondere vrouw die veel betekend heeft voor de samenleving van Haastrecht en omgeving.
Nadat Paulina in 1923 was overleden, werd het huis een museum. Dat had Paulina in haar testament bepaald. Tot op de dag van vandaag is het huis nog precies zo ingericht als in de tijd dat het bewoond werd. Daarom biedt het een unieke kijk in het leven van welgestelde families uit de negentiende en begin twintigste eeuw. In het gedempte licht dwaalt u van kamer naar kamer en ziet u de meest schitterende serviezen, meubelstukken, schilderijen, uitbundig versierde gordijnen. U loopt over de fraaie, handgeknoopte tapijten. Het voelt alsof u bij een rijke familie op visite bent.
Het huis is gebouwd in opdracht van de vader van Paulina, Marcellus Bisdom van Vliet, die zelf de voltooiing van het huis nog net voor zijn overlijden in 1877 heeft meegemaakt. Hij heeft er niet zelf meer gewoond; de eerste en de laatste bewoners waren Paulina en haar man Johan Jacob le Fèvre de Montigny.

Paulina le Fèvre de Montigny – Diocese of Vliet was the last occupant of this nineteenth-century patrician house. She was a special woman who meant a lot to the society of Haastrecht and the surrounding area.
After Paulina died in 1923, the house became a museum. Paulina had stipulated that in her will. To this day, the house is decorated exactly as it was when it was inhabited. That is why it offers a unique insight into the lives of wealthy families from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. In the dim light you wander from room to room and see the most beautiful dinnerware, furniture, paintings, elaborately decorated curtains. You walk across the beautiful, hand-knotted carpets. It feels like you are visiting a wealthy family.
The house was commissioned by Paulina's father, Marcellus Bisdom van Vliet, who himself witnessed the completion of the house just before his death in 1877. He did not live there anymore; the first and the last residents were Paulina and her husband Johan Jacob le Fèvre de Montigny.
