A painted reredos in the chancel of St George's church, St Cross South Elmham. The central panel is painted with the Angus Dei - a lamb and flag with the words from the Latin Mass Ecce Agnus Dei qui tollis peccator mundi ('Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world'), to the left St George slaying a dragon, and to the right is the Blessed Virgin Mary. Above the pictures are traceried ogee arches. In the pilars of the panel are small alcoves with figures of 4 saints, identified by their emblems below:
Left to right,
St Matthew - man or angel
St Mark - winged lion
St Luke - bull
St John - eagle
It reveals an Anglo-catholic enthusiasm in the middle years of last century.
