FR L’intérêt de Saint-Pierre d’Auribeau réside principalement dans sa magnifique situation à 650 mètres d’altitude, sur une pointe rocheuse du Lubéron d’où l’on domine toute la vallée d’Apt et le village actuel.
Le sommet de la butte est occupé par une fortification comprenant une enceinte et un donjon. Ce petit sanctuaire, conforme au type des chapelles rurales de Provence, était autrefois l’église du village, installé auprès d’elle sur le flanc de la butte, et qui fut déserté au XIVe s.
Envahi par les ronces, sa voûte écroulée, il menaçait de disparaître si une association n’avait pas heureusement entrepris sa restauration. La nef de deux travées se termine par une abside en hémicycle couverte en cul-de-four. Le matériau est de belle qualité. La façade, le chœur et les chaînes d’angle sont en moyen appareil. Sur la façade, à droite de l’entrée principale, une inscription rappelle sa dédicace, un 30 mai : III KL IVNII DED I/CACIO… ("Dédiée à saint Pierre le 3 des calendes de juin")
L’église Saint-Pierre d’Auribeau est mentionnée en 1158 parmi les biens dont le pape Adrien IV confirmait la possession à l’évêque d’Apt . Elle devait être construite depuis peu.
EN The interest of Saint-Pierre d´Auribeau lies mainly in its magnificent location 650 meters above sea level, on a rocky point of the Lubéron from which one dominates the entire valley of Apt and the current village.
The top of the hill is occupied by a fortification comprising an enclosure and a keep. This small sanctuary, conforming to the type of rural chapels in Provence, was once the village church, installed next to it on the side of the hill, and which was deserted in the 14th century.
Invaded by brambles, its vault collapsed, it threatened to disappear if an association had not fortunately undertaken its restoration. The two-bay nave ends with a semicircular apse covered in a cul-de-four. The material is of good quality. The facade, the choir and the corner chains are in medium size. On the facade, to the right of the main entrance, an inscription recalls his dedication on May 30: III KL IVNII DED I / CACIO ... ("Dedicated to Saint Peter on the 3rd of June calends")
The church of Saint-Pierre d'Auribeau is mentioned in 1158 among the properties which Pope Adrian IV confirmed to the Bishop of Apt. It was to be built recently.
