The Gatineau Valley rail line reached Wakefield in 1892. Brisk demand for passenger and freight services by 1902 led to four daily Canadian Pacific trains from Ottawa on weekdays. A second railway station was buit in 1930 to free the original site for additional tracking and space for loading freight cars. With improved highways, motor vehicles became the way to go, and rail service was discontinued in 1980.
In the spring of 2018, the village of Wakefield inaugurated a walk along the old railway line that crosses the city. We can still see the old rails that form the gravel path.
