Memorial of the last stronghold kept by the Red Guardists Apr 6,1918. The statue was erected 1982 by a private association and is now owned by the city.

The siege of Tampere (March 16- Apr 6, 1918) turned to a massive defeat for the Finnish Socialist Workers' Republic when both the imperial Germany and White Guards aided by volunteers from several countries, mostly Sweden pressured from north and south and the Russian Bolcheviks had signed a peace treaty with Germany, so the Finnish Reds and some scattered Russian troops were left on their own.
Prison camp and executions awaited those who surrendered, but the camp in Tampere was not the worst, because the situation remained tense and there was a broad socialist support in the city. When Imperial Germany lost and pulled out their troops from Finland, White Finland was left alone with Soviet Russia.
