Not long ago, this was a standard red hydrant, and it had probably been this way since the 1990s. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

The cap is now orange, perhaps artistically used as the sun above the waters, while most of the hydrant is sea green. The outlet caps are a lighter shade of green with red operating nuts, and the artist really did a nice job with the bolts on the breaker ring. They've been decorated to be the buttons on the flowers around the perimeter of the ring. An octopus wearing a hat is enjoying a cup of something, while a woman's face is above the sun over one of the outlet caps. A nymph with colorful hair is on the back of the hydrant, above a whale that looks to be receiving a friendly pat from a figure in a small boat. Above one of the outlet caps is a small opening, with blue sky in the background, with a woman in a robe releasing seagulls into the sky.
