A decoratively carved oak lectern in St Michael the Archangel's church, Halam. It dates from the 19th century, and has a splendid St Michael in a niche. He is depicted slaying Satan as a dragon. In the frieze above is the inscription "Gloria in excelsis Deo" (Latin for "Glory to God in the highest").
In 1884 the condition of the building was described as being ‘very miserable and damp’, and extensive restorations were made, including provision of new pulpit, pews etc. This reading lectern would be contemporary with that time.
